![]() Our waiter brought her a dog dish of water when we asked. Here at the roadhouse, we take pride in our steaks. The cake is just like my Oma's - moist, chocolatey and rich with thick chunky icing filled with pecans & coconut - definitely delicious!! I can't comment on the Irish coffee other than my husband immensely enjoyed it and said he "definitely order it again"! We sat outside in the biergarten because we had our dog with us. A beautifully decorated huge slice was brought for me and hubs had an Irish coffee for the first time. I went with what I know, German Chocolate cake. Now onto desserts and there are plenty of options for all palettes.I had my heart set on sachertorte after seeing it on the menu but sadly, it was sold out, along with their fresh made apple strudel. I have to say it does have a slight vinegary bite that I do love and that's what made Cafe Old Vienna's better than my Oma's (insert shamed head bow head). Now let me brag on the red cabbage.the flavor is out of this world! Nice firm pieces mixed with some softer ones gives this side a wonderful texture and makes it so smooth on the tongue. The sauerkraut wash perfect also, nice flavor with just a hint of the caraway & juniper berries and the texture was very good too. The spätzle was amazing, nice & firm but with that smooth texture it's known for and topped with gravy made it lip licking good. Home fried potatoes were golden brown & crispy on the outside while still being moist and creamy on the inside. Beautifully grilled and a great flavor of pork with seasonings (best enjoyed with the Guldens), my husband enjoyed both of these. I couldn't eat my bratwurst because I pigged out on the sides but the one bite I did have was heavenly. The knockwurst is grilled just enough for that "pop" when you bite or cut into it and has that wonderful smooth texture to compliment the crispy grilled skin. The schnitzel is thin & perfectly fried to a gorgeous golden color but still so moist & tender inside. 3 types of mustards: Guldens, Ingelhoffer sweet hot & stone ground, are brought to the table (my personal fav is the sweet hot mixed with a dab of Guldens) to accent the meat portions. A huge platter of red cabbage, home fried potatoes, sauerkraut and spätzle with brown gravy arrived topped with 2 schnitzels, 2 bratwurst, and 2 knockwurst, all cooked to crispy perfection, plus it comes with 2 appetizer salads (get the house honey vinegarette -trust me). We had the German feast for 2 as our entree. These would have given her's a run for the money, they were that good. ![]() She use to fry mine just a bit crispier for me because that's the way I like them. If they would have been fried just a bit crispier, I would have sworn my Oma (passed in 1994) had made them. Be aware, this appetizer comes as 3 pancakes so a double order maybe needed. The creamy, crispy texture of the potato blended with just a hint of bacon served with applesauce and sour cream is amazing. We started with potatoes pancakes and they were so delicious. The food took me back to my Oma's kitchen and table!!! My dad & his mom were both 100% German so I grew up on some incredible cky me!!! So many emotions flowed while enjoying our excellent meal. ![]()
